Viscose is a type of rayon. Originally known as artificial silk, in the late 19th century, the term “rayon” came into effect in 1924. The name “viscose” derived from the way this fiber is manufactured; a viscous organic liquid used to make both rayon and cellophane.
Viscose is a relatively new fiber manufactured from natural plants such as bamboo, soy, eucalyptus, and sugar cane that produces fiber looking very similar to natural silk.
It is ideal for wet felting, spinning, paper making and other forms of fiber art. It lends itself for excellent blending with wool fibers during the felting process and adds unmistakable shiny and silky characteristics to the fabric.
Covering wool with viscose fibers produces pliable and thin felted fabric, it also reduces peeling.
